During the procedure:
- You’ll receive sedation or general anesthesia to keep you comfortable.
- A small catheter is inserted through a vein (typically in the groin) and guided to the heart.
- Using advanced 3D mapping and imaging, your physician identifies the area responsible for the arrhythmia.
- Heat (radiofrequency) or PFA (Pulsed Field Ablation) non-thermal energy is delivered through the catheter to carefully destroy the targeted tissue causing the abnormal rhythm.
- Once the source is treated, normal rhythm is typically restored.
You will be closely monitored and are required to stay on bed rest for several hours before you can be discharged to go home.
You may experience minor soreness or fatigue, but most people return to regular activities within a few days.
Follow-up care includes rhythm monitoring and a medication review, with many patients able to reduce or discontinue rhythm-controlling medications over time.
